Why do TEM Projects Fail?

I was recently asked by a client "Why do TEM projects fail and not meet our management's expectations. This question is asked more than you may think, especially after the decision has been made, implemented and the consultants have left the building.

Greetings!

The Telecommunications market has been extremely active in the last few months. AT&T made a strategic decision to purchase

T-Mobile, which they claim will bring the internet to rural areas, their competitors say we are looking at a duoploy with AT&T and Verizon covering 80% of all mobile users. The consolidation of wireless networks and data center providers will eventually lead to a higher cost as the Tier 2 players are purchased. Are your contracts up for renewal because now might be the time to negotiate before the competition disappears?

Network Demand Planning Model

Over the last 12 months we have been engaged by several large Fortune 1000 companies that have had similar problems. How do I analyze, plan and ensure that my voice and data bandwidth can support my internal and external customers. The expansion of VOIP and the additional requests for video have put a strain on many IT organizations. We have developed a new Network Demand Planning Model that allows this type of analysis with key inputs from many data points in your network. The ability to see when and where your network may fail is critical to your planning. So, don't wait for your network to break, there is never a better time to turn to the experts and get an independent review.

Industry News
Industry News

Every day now there is an announcement about a major supplier buying a rival or entering a new market. It's getting tough to figure out who are the main players. Certainly the Data Center marketplace has seen several key changes from CenturyLink purchasing SAVVIS to Paetec entering the data center market. Both Equinix and Peak10 continue to develop more cloud solutions and customers are eager to  understand capabilities and costs. AT&T announced they will be investing $1Bn to deploy global network based Cloud and Mobility solutions. So much investment yet how will this affect your decisions in 2011-2012.

Factoids: In 2010 Skype accounted for over 13% of the  international voice calling market share. Is your international VOIP plan optimized?

Community Service
Sheltering Arms Group Photo

On March 23rd, we continued our tradition of volunteering in our local community here in Atlanta by spending our day at the Sheltering Arms Early Education and Family Center in Decatur. We read books to the students of all ages from 2-8 years old. Then we rolled up our sleeves and completed a major landscaping project to enhance the kids play area outside. We had a great time and the kids have a new playground.

Mobile Strategy

Mobile Device Management (MDM) is gaining momentum with enterprises trying to address the influx of smartphones within their organizations. A recent study showed that MDM delivered a 20% reduction in the cost of supporting these devices. What is your strategy? Look for our white paper on Mobile Device Strategy coming in June.

And Finally,

As the economy slowly picks up momentum there are still many IT and Communications challenges we all face. So, who do you turn to for advice and leadership? At a recent event the guest speaker said " people buy from those they trust, have rapport but most importantly someone who understands my business problems and brings a solution". So the next time you are up late at night trying to figure out how to solve that problem, think of your trusted partner. Whomever they maybe.

Sincerely,
